AMON AMARTH Is 'Halfway' Through Writing 'Amazing' New Album
March 25, 2018Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH are "halfway through writing" material for their next album.
The follow-up to 2016's "Jomsviking" will mark the band's recording debut with drummer Jocke Wallgren, who joined AMON AMARTH two years ago.
Speaking to Australia's Heavy magazine on Saturday (March 24),AMON AMARTH bassist Ted Lundström said (see video below): "We're halfway through writing the new album, and the new stuff sounds amazing, so we're really stoked to get back into the studio as soon as possible."
Asked if the new AMON AMARTH music sounds like a progression from "Jomsviking", Ted said: "We're always trying to take it to the next step, but in the end, even when we [say], 'We're gonna do something really different,' it will still end up sounding like AMON AMARTH anyways. We're doomed — we're always gonna sound like this."
"Jomsviking" debuted at No. 19 on The Billboard 200, having shifted 21,000 equivalent album units in the week ending March 31, 2016. The disc was released via Metal Blade in North America and Sony Music internationally. The first concept record in AMON AMARTH's storied career was produced and mixed once again by Andy Sneap (JUDAS PRIEST, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, ACCEPT).
AMON AMARTH enlisted a session drummer, Tobias Gustafsson (VOMITORY, CUT UP),during the recording sessions for "Jomsviking", following the departure of longtime drummer Fredrik Andersson.
Lundström previously described Wallgren as "a super-solid drummer" who is "very professional" and "very on-the-spot all the time." He added: "It is much easier to play if you have a drummer who is [tight]. It makes our lives easier."
